Fold your hands in front of you by crossing your fingers. Look at which thumb is on top. Now, refold your hands, crossing your fingers so the other thumb is now on top. Wait a few seconds. How does it feel? Does it feel very unusual, even slightly unsettling? This little exercise will show most of us how related change and control are. It also shows us how subtly we sense change.

Obviously, all four pushing from behind, in unison, would help them to reach their common goal. Stop! Time out! Don't pass GO, and don't collect $200. The situation has gone to extremes. It is time to bring some sense back to the process!

What am I railing about? The way so many Americans approach stress and their health. As a nation, we appear to want a "magic bullet," an all-in-one pill that will reduce stress, improve mental activity, increase virility, be easy to swallow and cheap to buy. It doesn't exist in pill form. The closest activity to the magic pill is aerobic exercise.
